New
Orleans
Location
:
Southeastern Louisiana |
Formerly the capital of Louisiana, New Orleans is one of the busiest ports
in the nation. It is widely known for its rich mix of ethnicities and culture,
thus becoming a major tourist attraction as well as a powder keg waiting
for a light. Like most southern states, the lines that divide the people
by race and by species are very harshly drawn. There is no need to ask
questions where you belong in this city, strays from the wrong areas are
either arrested, or found beaten days later. It has many districts and
quarters, each sporting its own attractions, natives and danger. The city
is full of runaway slaves, most of which hide out in the warehouse district,
the Irish channel and sadly, the sewers. Riots are fairly common in New
Orleans, though the local police department does a fairly good job keeping
them to a quiet roar. Occasionaly the National Guard is called in to assist,
but that is a rare instance. Protests are often given the same treatment
as a riots, as such protests for civil rights are few and far between.
When protesters make enough noise to attract the media, the police make
themselves scarce.
Being a major port in the nation, New Orleans houses all sorts of industries,
most of which are located in the Central Business District. Many major
corporations have their headquarters in New Orleans. As for businesses
running out of New Orleans, there are few outside tourist attractions and
the normal market and shopping centers you'd expect in a city of its size. |
