The National Guard is the term used for the state militias. They've been
the extra men used by the regular military from the days preceding the
founding of the United States of North America, and have been serving since,
under varying conditions and names. Up until the Great War, the State Militias
were not fully funded by the federal government, and still had a great
deal of self rule. After the National Defense Act of 1916, they lost a
great deal of their autonomy, but gained full funding and became a key
player in the defense of the nation.
In the modern day, they are frequently called in to assist the patrollers
when slave rebellions or mass escapes get out of control. A major thorn
in their side of recent, has been the group known as Cross Country, which
has not only eluded them on a whole for the last four years, but has been
notorious for penetrating their ranks, sabotaging their equipment and embarrassing
them in the media. |
