Louisiana
Location
:
Southern U.S.N.A., next to Florida making up part of the Southeast border |
As with any location in North or South America, the land that one day became
Louisiana had a rich history of Native American occupation which began
far before the Europeans landed. It was first invaded by Europeans in the
year sixteen hundred and eighty-seven when Robert Cavelier claimed the
lands in the name of France, and named it in honor of Louis XIV, the king
of France. The first few decades of colonization were slow and unfruitful.
The French had little clue how to properly settle and utilize the lands
that they had acquired. Because of this, the right to settle the land passed
from person to company to person and back. In seventeen hundred and eleven
Louisiana became a separate French colony, and in seventeen hundred and
twenty-two New Orleans became its capital. A few years after that Louisiana
became property of the French crown, shortly after it was ceded in part
to Great Britain and the rest to Spain. The colony flip flopped ownership
a few more times until eighteen hundred and three when George Washington
bought Louisiana and some other properties from Napoleon to fun his battles.
This was known as the Louisiana purchase.
During the next fifty years Louisiana went through some major economic
changes and advances, its ports being only second to New York in the amount
of product brought in and out. During the American Civil War of eighteen
hundred and fifty, Louisiana was a key factor in the economy of the south,
being a major stop for British ships. Today, Louisiana's biggest industry
is still agriculture, and has a very large population of anthro slaves
to reap the cotton and the sugarcane. The masters of Louisiana are only
second to Texas in their cruelty. |
